Privacy

We take kids' privacy seriously.

The short version: we collect the bare minimum, we don't sell data, and COPPA is a floor — not a ceiling.

What we collect

  • • Name, username, password, and (for solo signups) date of birth
  • • Lesson progress, XP, and project saves tied to the account
  • • Minimal technical logs (IP, user-agent) for security and rate limiting

We do not collect location data, contacts, device IDs, or advertising identifiers.

How we use it

  • • Authenticate and remember your progress
  • • Show teachers the class's lesson-by-lesson mastery
  • • Show parents their own kids' progress (and nobody else's)
  • • Email account-critical updates (consent, password resets)

What we don't do

  • • We don't sell personal data — not now, not ever.
  • • No behavioral advertising targeting kids.
  • • No sharing with third-party ad networks.
  • • No persistent identifiers used for ad retargeting.

COPPA for kids under 13

Kids under 13 who sign up at home need verified parental consent before the account becomes active. We email a consent link to the parent; no lessons are unlocked and no data is processed beyond what's needed to send that consent email until a parent approves.

Kids under 13 enrolling through a class code are covered by the school-consent carve-out (the school obtains consent on our behalf per COPPA § 312.5(c)(1)). Teachers can tell us to delete a student's account and data at any time.

Your rights

You can request a copy of your data, correct it, or delete your account at any time by emailing hello@codemoji.com. For minors, a parent or school can make the same request on the student's behalf.
